Christmas\u00a0(how very un-PC) is around the corner, the snow is gently falling (just not here)\u00a0and it is time to get together with friends and family for a Deco Christmas Party! \u00a0Mary J. Breen, author of The Party Book <\/em>states, “Here are some frolicsome holiday games for people who like to romp and run.”<\/h4>\n

<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

A) Who uses the word\u00a0“frolicsome” anymore? \u00a0I think\u00a0I will!<\/h4>\n

B) “Romp and run” (to paraphrase the Drowsy Chaperone) has a different meaning now, but back then it just meant fun!<\/h4>\n

<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Start by deco-rating with fun and easy deco-rations.\u00a0 Just modify the Hallowe’en centerpieces (see my deco-we’en post) by substituting a fir tree, star, snowflake or other appropriate design.<\/h4>\n

Change out the Hallowe’en cat for a simple fir tree deco-rated with foil deco-rations.<\/p><\/div>\n

Speaking of fun, here are her\u00a0suggestions for your Yuletide \u00a0gathering:<\/h4>\n

<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Deck the Tree<\/span>:\u00a0 Cut\u00a0a\u00a0fir tree shape out of a large sheet of green paper drawing a series of random dots on the back; tape the tree to the wall.\u00a0 Provide your quests with several gummed\u00a0holiday seals. (You can use some of the 10 billion you’ve gotten in the mail this year.)\u00a0 Have someone play several lively Christmas (there’s that word again!) tunes on the\u00a0piano while\u00a0your guests march in a circle in front of the tree, trying to \u00a0deco-rate it as they pass by while keeping up with the march.\u00a0\u00a0 Mary Breen assures that this part of\u00a0the game “is like tossing rings at a target \u00a0while the merry-go-round is in motion”.\u00a0 (She’s so darn cheery!)\u00a0 After the tree\u00a0is deco-rated, remove it\u00a0and using a pin pushed through the seals, determine\u00a0who is closest to the dots on the back.\u00a0 Winners are rewarded with a small prize.<\/h4>\n

<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Next on the agenda is the Cranberry Relay<\/span>: Divide your guests into several teams and have them line up in rows giving each guest 5 cranberries. \u00a0About eight feet in front of each team, have a funnel inside a tall glass.\u00a0\u00a0In turn, each guest moves to the front of their line and\u00a0tosses their cranberries (hopefully not their cookies)\u00a0into the funnel.\u00a0 When each guest has had their turn, the team with the most cranberries in the glass wins. (Just add Vodka!)<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wait! You want even more<\/em> fun?\u00a0 Provide each team with garland, tinsel, bells, crepe paper, etc., enough to deco-rate a tree.\u00a0 One team member becomes the “tree” and stands across the room from\u00a0their team members with the deco-rations in a box next to him\/her. On the word to begin, each team member\u00a0in turn, runs to the box, picks up a deco-rations and pins or places it onto the “tree”. \u00a0 The action continues until all the deco-rations are used.\u00a0 Much hilarity ensues (Mary B. is REALLY optimistic!) and the team with the best deco-rated “tree” wins. \u00a0(And the prize better be a good one!).<\/h4>\n

And the winner is…<\/p><\/div>\n

When all the laughter subsides, serve refreshments with “all the pomp and circumstance of an old English Christmas” (I keep using “that word”).\u00a0 It is suggested carolers bring in the “wassail” bowl (hot spiced punch) and encourage the rest of the guests to sing traditional songs.<\/h4>\n
